	Do You Know What Zero Day Attacks are? Have you ever received a notice that a security vulnerability has been discovered within a particular application you have on your computer and that a patch or update needs to be installed to fix it? What does that mean? It means, that more than likely, the creators of the application did not realize the vulnerability existed before reports from various users came in that their applications were not working properly. As they looked at these reports, they put two-and-two together and realized particular vulnerability. They then go to work on creating a patch to stop the attacks. Once they have the patches created, they send out the updates to their users. At that point it is up to you or your IT support to apply the updates/patches. Zero day attacks can devastate a network. They are new or unknown attacks for which a patch or signature has not been written. These attacks target vulnerabilities that are unknown to the application's creators. By exploiting these vulnerabilities, attackers can enter your network to execute code. In the worst case, an attacker can exploit these flaws to gain complete control of a victim's computer. How do you protect yourself from them? To properly protect yourself from them, you must have proactive zero day defenses already in place when the attack is launched.
